We all know that diet and exercise is the best option to lose weight. In order to lose weight we need to reduce calorie intake, choose healthy foods and increase our exercise. Sometimes that is easier said than done!

What is Ideal Protein? Ideal protein is a medically developed weight loss method that primarily promotes fat loss while maintaining muscle mass. The program follows a 4 phase protocol: weight loss in the first two phases, transition in the third, and maintenance in the fourth. Ideal Protein is a ketogenic weight loss program, simply meaning its a carbohydrate controlled program allowing your body to burn fat as its primary fuel source instead of carbohydrates.
Principles behind the Ideal Protein Protocol:
The key to the protocol is learning to live off your bodys own fat reserves. Your body employs energy from three main reserves: glycogen (carbohydrate), muscle and fat. First it draws from its simple and complex carbohydrate reserves, and when depleted it turns simultaneously to its protein and fat reserves for energy. During the first two phases of the program which focus on weight loss, we restrict carbohydrates. Why? Because as long as sugar is being consumed, the body is not burning fat. Simple and complex carbohydrates can prevent weight loss. The main principle is to deplete your glycogen (carbohydrate) reserves, in order to compel the body to turn to its fat reserves to burn calories.
On the Ideal Protein Program the dieter is required to consume three Ideal Protein foods per day during the weight loss phase as well as your choice of lean protein, vegetables and salad. We carry over 40 different Ideal Protein foods at the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy. Each Ideal food contains up to 20 grams of protein with very little to no sugar or fat. These are easy to prepare and can be incorporated into a busy lifestyle quite nicely. The norm is to lose between 2 and 5 pounds per week.
