Compounded Trimo-san (Hydroxyquinolone 0.025%/Borate Vag Jelly)

Jul 23, 2013

Dear Doctors,

At the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy, we want to help you help your patients. One way we can help you is through compounding. Compounding is when a pharmacist modifies or mixes a medication for a specific patient with a prescription from that patients prescriber. Common reasons to compound a medication are to get a non-commercially available dose, to get a medication into a patient by a different route or to re-create a medication that is temporarily or permanently off the market. Here is our suggestion this month:

Compound NameCompounded Trimo-san (Hydroxyquinolone 0.025%/Borate Vag Jelly)
What is in ItHydroxyquinolone and Boric Acid
IndicationTrimo-san was a commercially available vaginal gel that was most often used by women with pessaries. It was designed to not interfere with the pessary and to maintain the normal vaginal pH of 4. Trimo-san has since gone on back-order. DCP has re-created the Trimo-san during the back order
How to PrescribeNew pessary wearers should use a applicator 3 times the first week after original insertion of pessary. Then applicator twice a week thereafter unless otherwise directed.

We hope that gives you some ideas about how we can help you help your patients! Any questions? Call us at 638-4602.
